Logan H. Arsenault
1922-2011

Logan Hance Arsenault, age 88, of Amherst, passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Sunday, June 19, 2011 comforted by his family.

Born in Amherst, NS, he was a son of the late Stephen and Kathleen (Thompson) Arsenault.

Logan owned and operated a business, Logan's Kennels, that he ran for many years, where he groomed and cared for numerous dogs. He took great pride in his dogs and belonged to the Tantramar Kennel Club. Logan enjoyed going to dog shows and training his dogs. He had a passion for creating floats and entering them in the parades in Amherst and the surrounding communities. Logan was a member of the Holy Family Parish.

He will be lovingly remembered by Julie (Basil) Hicks, Brittany Hicks, Kathleen Hicks, Aidan Hicks, Cullan Hicks, Hugh Maloney Jr., Travis Maloney, Ty Maloney, Joey Jr. O'Dell, and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Grace Dakin, and brothers and sisters Theresa, Martha, Annie, Lillian, Marguerite, John, Clarence, Roy, Stephen & Fred.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Parish on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 11 am, burial in St. Charles - Nativity Cemetery.

Those wishing to make a donation in Logan's memory may do so to the L.A. Animal Shelter or charity of your choice.

Ruth Rose Long
1925-2011

Ruth Rose Long, 86 years of age, of Maccan, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Maccan she was a daughter of the late John & Henrietta Dunlop.

Ruth had worked as a Post Clerk in Maccan for 11 years. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish CWL and a Honorary member of the Maccan Legion #134. Ruth was a loved and respected member of the community and the church. There was nothing more important to her than spending time with her family.

Ruth will be sadly missed by her daughters, Shauna Stewart (Jim) of Moncton, Donna Long of Alseund, Norway; two sons, John (Lesley) of Milford, NS and Michael (Maureen) of Rothesay, NB; a brother, Ross (Barb) of Chignecto, NS; grandchildren, Craig, Victoria, Sarah, Justin, Lynda, Celia, Mason, Nicholas, Emily, Dawson, Joseph, Benjamin, and Gabriel; as well as one great grandson, Leo.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her daughter, Jacquelyn Gregg; one grandson, Johnathan Alexander; two sisters, Marjorie and Mary (Isabel) Dunlop and seven brothers, Robert, John, Girvan, Harry, Earl, Donald and Eldon.

Honoring the families wishes, the remains have been cremated. Visitation will be held at the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS on Wednesday from 6-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Family Parish on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 10 a.m. with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Burial to follow in the Maccan Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.

R. Elizabeth (Betty) Porter
1923-2011

It is with heartfelt sadness the family of R. Elizabeth (Betty) Porter, age 88, announce her passing at the Gable's Lodge, Amherst on Thursday, October 6, 2011.

Born in Warren she was a daughter of the late David and Lucy (Anderson) Trenholm and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mum was a long time employee of Goodwin's Super Market where she made many long lasting friends and will be fondly remembered by her many close friends and family. She was a member of Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst.

Mum will be sadly missed by her daughters, Jeannette (Boyd) Morris, Brookdale, Marion (Dale) Murray, Moncton; sons, Richard (Shirley Ann), Hastings, and Floyd (Laureen), Louisdale, Cape Breton, NS; grandchildren, Karlene, Krista, Jennifer, Kraig, Rodney, Troy, Robert, Monica, Pierre, Jason, Dylan and Kerry Rose as well as 16 great grandchildren many nieces and nephews and her best friend Ruth Tattrie.

She was predeceased by her husband, Russell I. Porter and her daughter, Carol Porter, brothers, Maxwell, Fred and Harvey and sisters, Jean Sargent, Grace Jewell, Kathleen and Eleanor Trenholm and Mildred Trueman.

To honour Mum's wishes there will be no funeral or visitation. Her family will hold a private celebration of her life at a later date. Arrangements in care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777). Donations in her memory to a charity of donor's choice if so desired.

Vaughn Gilbert
1926-2011

We are saddened to announce the death of Vaughn Gilbert, age 84, of Athol, on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Vaughn passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Berwick, NS, he was a son of the late Ernest and Georgie (Wood) Gilbert.

He will be sadly missed by his wife the former Viola Elizabeth Dow; sons, Stephen (Nadine) and Kenneth, both of Upper Nappan, Phillip (Joyce), Maccan and Gary (Wanda) of Athol; daughters, Judy (Darrell) Ward of Athol and Sharon (Kenneth) Boudreau of Amherst; brother, Elmer Gilbert, Amherst; sister, Lois Moore, Parrsboro; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by granddaughters, Sandra and Holly; brothers, Murray and Lawson and a sister Ethel.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777) where visitation will be held from 7 to 9 pm on Sunday. Funeral service will be held from the Funeral Home on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 2 pm with Pastor Jamie Grooms officiating. Burial in Athol Cemetery, Cumb. Co., N. S.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Vaughn's memory may be made to CRHCC Palliative Care or charity of choice.

Simone Tompkins
1925-2011

With sadness, the family of Simone Tompkins, of Joggins, announce her peaceful passing at the age of 86, at the Gables Nursing Home, Amherst on Saturday, October 15, 2011.

Born in Joggins, she was a daughter of the late Gabriel and Helene (Bayart) Waterlot.

Simone was a member of the Joggins United Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion and a former member of the Mayflower Rebekah Lodge. A mother and grandmother, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking, talking on the phone and loved animals.

Simone will be sadly missed by her husband of 64 years, Stanley Tompkins, Joggins; daughters, Lisa Tompkins, Red Deer Alberta and Andrea (Lawrence Brown), Lower Cove, NS; 5 grandchildren, Colin, Selena, Tyler, Jenna and Tyson and 2 great grandchildren, Brandon and Kia; a brother Andrew Waterlot, Joggins, NS and a nephew Bobby Waterlot, Moncton, NB.

She was predeceased by a brother Edmond "Eddie" Waterlot.

Simone's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst from where the funeral service will be held Wednesday October 19, 2011 at 2 pm, Rev. Christine MacLeod officiating. Burial in the River Hebert Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Donations to the LA Animal Shelter if so desired.

Margaret E. Weatherbee
1920-2011

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Margaret Elizabeth Weatherbee (nee Johnson). She passed away peacefully in hospital with her children at her side in Lindsay, Ontario on Friday, 14 October 2011. She is survived by her remaining three children, Ross Johnson (Jelena) Weatherbee, James Randall (Christine) Weatherbee and Barbara Gail Weatherbee, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She will also be deeply missed by her dear friend, Rose Weatherbee, her nephews and nieces in Amherst and abroard; and extended family members Kathy and Bert Gallant. Services are planned at the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, on 12 November at 1100 am.

Thomas W. Newey
1944-2011

The death of Thomas W. Newey, age 66, of Debert, occurred at the Colchester Regional Hospital on October 23, 2011.

Born in River Hebert, NS, he was a son of the late Carl and Lois (Wilson) Newey.

Tom had been employed 28 years with National Harbours Board, Halifax, NS, then worked at the Ferry Terminal, Halifax for 17 years. A member of the Anglican Church he was a graduate of St. Charles Commercial School, Amherst. In his youth he was a member of the River Hebert Army Cadets.

Tom will be sadly missed by a son, Kevin (Patricia) Newey, Dartmouth, NS; partner, Vicki Thomson, Debert, NS; a brother, Allison , Harmony, NS, a sister Louise (William) Dickeson, Bible, Hill, NS.

Tom's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst, (902 667 8777) from where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2011. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Burial in the River Hebert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of the donor's choice gratefully appreciated.

William "Bill" Mills
1929-2011

Peacefully at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, William "Bill" Mills, of Dorchester passed away at the age of 82, with his family by his side. Born in Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Oliver and Lillian (Leblanc) Mills.

Bill loved animals of all kinds. An outdoorsman by nature, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren and great granchildren.

He will be dearly missed by his wife 63 years, Connie (nee Tower); four daughters, Patricia (Edward) Wilson, ON, Donna Dawson, Dorchester, Carol (Harvey) Saulnier, Dorchester, Paige (Jack) Irving, Dawson Settlement; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd and two sisters, Genesta Wry and Violet Ward; many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by a brother, Sidney and a sister Marcella MacQueen.

Bill's remains have been entrusted into the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300). His family will welcome visitation from friends and family from 7-9 pm at the funeral home on Thursday, June 2, 2011 with a service at 2 pm from the funeral home on Friday, June 3, 2011. Burial will be held at the Dorchester Rural Cemetery following the service.

In memory of Bill, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Moncton SPCA.

Elsie Pearl Wall Carson
1929-2011

Elsie Pearl Wall Carson, age 81, of Port Elgin, formerly of Cape Tormentine, passed away peacefully while surround by her family at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, June 1, 2011.

Born in Moncton, she was a daughter of the late James and Doris (Arbing) Wood.

Elsie was a lifelong housewife, dedicated to the care of her husbands, children and family. She was very close to all her grandchildren. She enjoyed country music and loved to dance.

She is survived by her 3 sons, Courtney (Julie) Wall, Port Elgin, Vernon (Sharon) Wall, Port Elgin and Stephen (Beverly) Carson, Bayfield; 2 daughters, Dolores Allen, Port Elgin, and Lillian (William) Mallery, Amherst; 4 brothers, George, Moncton, Erwin (Mona), Truro, Ted (Violet), Bayfield, and James (Connie) of Gagetown, sister; Iva Rayworth, Port Elgin; and 15 Grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was also predeceased by husbands Courtney Wall and Vance Carson, by grandson James, Great grandson James, Son-in-Law Ormand (Dolores) Allen, and sister Irene Trenholm.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St, Port Elgin, NB (538-2241). Visiting hours will take place at the Trinity United Church, Cape Tormentine on Friday, June 3, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place at the church on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 2 pm. Burial will follow in the Bayfield Cemetery.

Those wishing to make a donation in Elsie's memory may do so to the Trinity United Church, Cape Tormentine, the Lodge Mgr Henri Cormier, Moncton or the Palliative Care Department of the Sackville Memorial Hospital.
