Bertha Rose

ROSE, Bertha - 77, Dartmouth, passed away February 7, 2003, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Rencontre West, NL, she was a daughter of the late William and Julia (Spencer) Chapman.

She is survived by her daughter, Ethel (Brian) Hausman, Lower Sackville; sons, Clayton (Rhoda) and Donald (Alicia), all of Dartmouth; grandchildren, Robert, Carl and Richard Hausman, Cindy, Roxanne, Karia, Jan, Erin and Lindy Rose; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Emma Rose, Rachel and Jacob Hausman; sisters, Ethel Pelley, Rockingham; Elizabeth (Sam) Stickland, Mount Pearl, NL; sisters-in-law, Violet, Lower Sackville; Jane and Sylvia, both of Pictou; Ena, Burgeo, NL; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence; brothers, James, John and William; a sister in infancy.

Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, February 10, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, Rev. Dennis Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville.

Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Canadian Diabetes Association.

Franco Spadafora

SPADAFORA, Franco - 65, Dartmouth, died February 3, 2003, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born on August 8, 1937, in Calabria, Italy, he was the son of the late Rafael and Theresa Spadafora.

He was a mechanic by trade. He is survived by several relatives in Italy.

Visitation will take place 2-4 p.m. Sunday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.

Gilbert Morris Hendersen

HENDERSON, Gilbert Morris - 77, Dartmouth, passed away February 5, 2003, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in St. Andrews, N.B., he was a son of the late Frank and Annie (Somers) Henderson.

He served in the Canadian Army, retiring in 1977, after 35 years of service. He had served during the Korean War, and also saw peacekeeping duties in Egypt. He enjoyed stamp collecting and cooking.

He is survived by his wife, M.A. Sylvia (Saulnier) Henderson; children, Barbara and her son David, Princeton, B.C.; Morris and his wife Lou and their children Sean, Jennifer and Nicole, Camrose, Alta.; Kathryn, Dartmouth, and her daughters Kirsten, Calgary, and Emily, at home; Kevin and his wife Jennifer and their children Luke and Clare, New Glasgow; Susan, Dartmouth; brothers, Douglas (Sally), St. Stephen's, N.B.; Keith, St. Andrews, N.B.; sister, Norma, Fredericton, N.B.

He was predeceased by his sister, Joan.

Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Monday, February 10, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, in Pope John XXIII, Father David Poirier SA officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Private family interment will follow in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. No flowers by request.

Donations may be made to Dartmouth General Hospital Palliative Care Ward. The family is very grateful and would like to thank the people who provided special care and support including the staff on 3 East and the Transitional Care Unit at Dartmouth General Hospital, Anika and Kris Whidden and Pat Moore.

Edmund Saxton Lamont

LAMONT, Edmund Saxton - 56, Herring Cove, died February 2, 2003, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Pittsfield, Mass., he was a son of the late Edmund and Margaret (Campbell) Lamont.

He was an ex-merchant seafarer, travelling extensively all over the world. He was a devoted family man and was very proud of his two daughters and their achievements. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with the family pets, especially his cat "Kitty".

Surviving are his wife, Maggie; daughters, Esme and Rowen, both at home; sisters, Jean Campbell-Kerrigan, Crystal Lake, Ill.; Beth Mitchell, Ottawa.

He was predeceased by his brother, Duncan. At his request, cremation has taken place and his ashes will be scattered at sea.

A memorial service will take place 2 p.m. Saturday, February 15, in St. James Anglican Church, Herring Cove, Rev. Liz Earley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mission to Seafarers, P.O. Box 27114, Halifax, NS B3H 4M8 or Bide Awhile Animal Shelter, 12 Eaton Ave., Dartmouth, NS B2Y 2X5.

Amber Quinn Adams

ADAMS, Amber Quinn - A special gem born in Halifax on December 4, 1983, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2003. Amber was a grade 12 student at Auburn Drive High School, Cole Harbour.

Her interests included the welfare and lives of her friends, fellow patients and extended families. She loved children and spent many good times baby-sitting and sharing with her young cousins. Amber loved life and was a great confidante to all. In spite of her illness, she always greeted family and friends with her cute, cheeky smile and light pat on the back (which she called a hug).

Amber is survived by her loving parents, Paul and Star, Dartmouth; sister, Latonya "Sissy", Dartmouth; brother, Paul Jr. "Poppa", at home; niece, Na'Taya "Taisy", Dartmouth; maternal grandparents, Shelia Ewing "Nana", East Preston, and Fulton Ewing "Puppy", Dartmouth; paternal grandparents, June Harris "Nanny", Dartmouth; Edgar Adams "Grandfather Adams", Montreal; Marvin and Shelia States "Nanny and Pops", Dartmouth; great-grandmothers, Dorothy Slawter "Momma", East Preston; Vinnell Robinson "Gran-Gran", Jamaica; Florence Simmonds, North Preston. Amber is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday. A memorial service will be held during the 7-9 p.m. visitation. Her home going celebration will be held 3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Dr. Lionel Moriah and Rev. Glen Gray officiating. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive relatives and friends at a reception to be held in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to IWK Health Centre Foundation, 6-North Nephrology, 5850 University Ave., P.O. Box 3070, Halifax, NS B3J 3G9.

Eileen Mary McKinnon

McKINNON, Eileen Mary - 76, Lower Sackville, passed away February 3, 2003, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in St. John's, NL, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Hayes) Hayes.

Eileen loved her bingo, knitting, travel, enjoyed life to the fullest and being with her grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Surviving are sons, Robert (Sandra), Wilmot; Kevin (Yvonne), Westphall; daughter, Deborah (Vernon) Hiltz, Lower Sackville; brother, Richard (Nellie) Hayes, St. John's, NL; sister, Bernadette (Stanley) Lamrock, Villagedale, Shelburne Co.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Maxwell; son, Ernest; brothers, John and Michael; sister, Kathleen.

Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday in St. Clements Church, Gaston Road, Dartmouth, Father Robert Floyd officiating. Reception to follow. Burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Sackville.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of choice.
