Kevin George Curley

CURLEY, Kevin George - 56, Bedford, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, September 28, 2002, at home. Born December 8, 1945, in New York, he was a son of the late Martin and Madeline (Russell) Curley.

Kevin attended Bishop Laughlin High School in New York and was also a graduate of Acadia University, and continued his studies to become a chartered accountant. In October 2000, the 1968-69 Acadia Men's Basketball Team (of which Kevin was a member) was inducted into the Acadian Sports Hall of Fame.

Kevin is survived by his wife of 10 years, the former Eileen Beaver; daughter, Lauren; sons, Peter, Kristopher, all of Charlottetown; stepson, Thomas MacDonald, Edmonton, Alta.; sister, Maureen Petrie; brothers, James, Martin, all of New York; granddaughter, Alex Elizabeth Curley, Charlottetown.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Memorial mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Bedford Highway. Reception will follow in the church hall. Interment at a later date. Donations in Kevin's memory to Palliative Care, c/o QEII Foundation, 1278 Tower Rd., Halifax, NS B3H 9Z9 would be appreciated.

Cyril Fraser

FRASER, Cyril - 72, North Preston, passed away September 28, 2002, in Dartmouth General Hospital, Dartmouth. Born April 20, 1930, he was a son of the late Isaac and Unice (Downey) Fraser.

He was a stone mason and cement finisher, sand blaster and spray painter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Rosella (Cain) Fraser; sons, Alexander (Rose), Cyril Jr. (Kimberlee), both of Cole Harbour; Clinton, Spryfield; Donald (Margaret), East Preston; and Isaiah, Dartmouth; daughters, Madeline (Glenister), North Preston; Joanne, Dartmouth; Esteline (James), Chicago, Ill.; Lorna, Donalda (Way- ne), Viola, Evetta (Cordell), Bolivia (Frank), all of North Preston; Elizabeth (Craig), Oromocto, N.B.; Rosella (Peter), Erica, both of Halifax; brothers, Alan (Ethel), Ross, North Preston; Clary (Shirley), Toronto; Lewis (Linda), Halifax; sisters, Esther, Eunice, North Preston; 38 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughters, Evangeline, Roseline; great-granddaughter, Jasmine Tynes; brothers, David, Isaac I, Ernest, Isaac II; sisters, Lillian, June.

Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Tuesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Thomas United Baptist Church, Rev. Wallace Smith officiating. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 204-5523 Spring Garden Rd., Halifax, NS B3J 9Z9 or St. Thomas United Baptist Church.

Elaine R. Marr

MARR, Elaine R. - 78, Halifax, died September 26, 2002, at home. Born in Liverpool, she was a daughter of the late William and Doris (Adams) Hebb.

She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and her family was her pride and joy.

Surviving are her daughters, Patricia (Robert) Brown, London, Ont.; Dianne (Ken) Wootten, Bridgewater; brothers, Phillip, Riverview, N.B.; Clark, Liverpool; sisters, Shirley Roper, Halifax; Claudine Frelick and Sandra Sabjan, both of Hamilton, Ont.; Norma Thistle, Ontario; Glenda Wilkes, Musquodoboit Harbour; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Craig Brown and Tiffany and Michelle Wootten; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander; brothers, Jordon, Douglas and Errol.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Monday, funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, both in Atlantic Funeral Home 6552 Bayers Rd. Burial to follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Alwyn Henry "Big Al" Bowness

BOWNESS, Alwyn Henry "Big Al" - 76, Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax, passed away peacefully Friday, September 27, 2002. Born in Cowansville, Que., he was a son of the late Maude (Chapplow) and Harry Bowness.

He worked for Northern Telecom in Montreal for 32 years before retiring to Kentville, where he owned and operated a bed and breakfast. Al had a lifelong passion for all sports, a practice goalkeeper in the Montreal Canadiens Organization in the late 1940s, was a junior football player in Montreal and had played in Snowdon Fastball League for many years. He was a member of St. Jean Golf and Country Club, St. Jean, Que., Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club, New Minas. During the Second World War, Al served in the Royal Canadian Navy on the HMS Meon and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 85 and 90, Lachine for 55 years.

Al is survived by his wife, Janet (Coll); children, Alwyn (Janice) Morris, Kahnawake, Que.; Hugh (Marie) Bowness, Bedford; Erin (Jamie) Hartley, Ontario; and grandchildren. Al was predeceased by brothers, Robert "Bob", William "Bert".

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 30, Father Michael Walsh officiating.

Family flowers only. Donations, in his memory, may be made to Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII. Heartfelt appreciation is extended to the entire staff of 6E.

Walter Arthur Holder

HOLDER, Walter Arthur - 87, Tantallon, died Thursday, September 26, 2002, in Parkstone Enchanced Care. Born in Halifax, he was the only son of the late George and Gertrude (Burton) Holder.

He was a veteran of the Second World War.

Surviving are his former wife and companion, Geanetta Nickerson; stepdaughters, Jean, Stella; stepgranddaughter, Vicki Boutilier; stepgrandson, Stephen Fener; several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was predeceased by his twin sister, Betty (Mrs. Curtis Manual), Doris (Mrs. Carmen Stoddard), Jean, Grace (Mrs. Lawrence Hubley) and Margaret (Mrs. Victor Pelkola); stepgrandson, Daniel Pulsifer.

No visitation or funeral service by Walter's request. His remains will rest alongside his loving parents and sisters in St. John's Cemetery, Fairview.

Emily Joan Bennett

BENNETT, Emily Joan - 4, Cole Harbour, passed away September 22, 2002, in IWK Health Centre, Halifax. Born in Regina, Sask., she was a daughter of Peter and Maureen Bennett.

Although Emily had many medical problems in her brief life she was a ray of sunshine to all those who were blessed to have met her and a constant source of pride and joy to her family. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. "Sleep well little one, till be meet again". Our lives were truly blessed in your short time in our arms.

Surviving are sister, Madeline age three; grandparents, Beatrice Gorman, St. John's, Nfld.; Raymond and Joan Bennett, Mount Pearl, Nfld.; many, many other relatives and family friends.

Emily was predeceased by her identical twin sister, Claire Beatrice (age three days) and her grandfather, Vernon Gorman. Cremation has taken place.

Visitation 7-9 p.m. today, 1-6 p.m. Wednesday, memorial service 11 a.m. Thursday, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Interment at a later date. Donations in Emily's memory may be made to Canadian Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome (SADS) Foundation, 15-6400 Mill Creek Dr., Suite 314, Mississauga, ON L5N 3E7.

Arthur Francis Gill

GILL, Arthur Francis - 67, Dartmouth, passed away September 21, 2002, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late James and Marjorie (MacLellan) Gill.

A bookkeeper by trade, Arthur enjoyed music, and stamp and coin collecting. He was an avid baseball fan, his favorite team being the Toronto Blue Jays.

He is survived by his wife, the former Carole Dupuis; daughters, Nancy (Jeff) Adams, Port Colborne, Ont.; Theresa (Randy) Ostlund, Melville, Sask.; Carrie (Craig) MacDonald, Edmonton, Alta.; son, Kenneth Arthur, Bedford; brothers, Foster (Wanda), Calgary, Alta.; sister, Ruth MacKeand, Welland, Ont.; grandchildren, David, Nicole, Victor, Marcus, Robert.

He was predeceased by his brother, Harold. Cremation has taken place.

A private family service will take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
