Saint John, New Brunswick

LANDRY-the death of Charles J. Landry of 57 Edith Ave., husband of Marie R. (LeBlanc) Landry, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Mr. Landry was born in Caraquet, a son of the late Marcellin and Clementine (Trudel) Landry, and had resided in Saint John since 1943. He had been employed at McAvity's and most of his career at Centracare. He was an avid carpenter and enjoyed making furniture for family and friends. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Robert (Agnes), Leonard (Sharon), and Kenneth (Marilyn), all of Saint John, and Donald (Anita) of Ottawa; two daughters, Lodienne Arseneau (Hubert), and Anna Hickman (Brian), both of Saint John; two brothers, Sylvestre and Gerard Landry, both of Caraquet; one sister, Lodienne Doiron of Caraquet; 9 grandchildren, Aileen Arseneau (Allan), Amanda Arseneau (Richard), Lynette Landry (Bryan), Nichole Landry, Kristina Landry, Katelyn Landry, Meredith Ozen (Evron), Lindsay Hickman, and Chantel Landry; 6 great-grandchildren, Samarah, Ashley, Dylan, Dale, Skyler, and Reilly; and several nieces and nephews.

Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Stella Maris Church on Monday morning at 10:30. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

W. John Elliott

Saint John, New Brunswick

ELLIOTT-the death of W. John Elliott of Loch Lomond Villa occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, February 6, 2009. John was born in Saint John, a son of the late Walter J. "Dates" and Charlotte O. (Logan) Elliott.

He was a graduate of St. Vincent's Boys High School and had served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for over twenty years.
Following his retirement from the air force he was employed with the Canadian Blood Services, Saint John Toyota, and Elliott Bros. He was an avid baseball, hockey, and harness-racing fan. He is survived by four brothers, Fred (Eileen) of Brighton, Mich., Father Bill O.M.I., Douglas, and Donald (Nancy), all of Saint John; three nieces, Tracey, Meaghan, and Nicole; two nephews, Kevin (Carolyn) and Robb; and one grandnephew, Matheson.

Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church on Tuesday morning at eleven o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph's Parish Community Centre would be appreciated.

Julia A. Shalala

After a short stay at the Turnbull Home on August 4, 2007, we announce with great sadness the peaceful passing of our dear sister, aunt and friend "Julie". Born in Campbellton, NB, she was a daughter of the late John Peter and Minera (Andrea) Shalala.

She was an employee of F. W. Woolworth & Co. for many years before going to the Ideal Store where she worked until ill health caused her retirement.She was a gracious and caring lady who expressed a great love for her family and who took great enjoyment in their presence. She was always generous, kind and thoughtful to those less fortunate, especially children. Julie was a member of the Canadian Lebanon Association, the Ladies of the Maronite Society and the Catholic Women's League.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Lieutenant John Shalala ( United States Marine Corps ) and his son, John Peter, her three sisters, infant Agnes Shalala, Elizabeth ( Lee ) Shalala and Theresa ( Terry ) Shiner, sister-in-law Margaret Shalala, brother-in-law Samuel Shiner and on August 1, 2007, by her great-great niece, Abigail Cedine McCarthy. She is survived by brother Salim ( Bud ) Shalala and sister-in-law Cecelia Shalala, of Saint John and brother Norman Shalala of Toronto, ontario, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Our lives will not be the same without her presence.

Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, from where the funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at St. Peter's Church with Mass of Christian Burial at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Donations to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital or St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated. The family wishes to express its sincere thanks to Dr. Susan Gray, doctors and staff at the CAM Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital and staff of the Turnbull Home for their exceptional care.

Ferne Mae Burtt

Ferne Mae Burtt, 92, of Waterville, Carlton County, NB, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at the Shaw Special Care Home, Waterville, NB. Ferne was born in Knoxford, NB on October 5, 1914, daughter of the late Barrie and Alberta Bartley.

Ferne is survived by her daughters; Darlene Flemming (Carl), Jacksonville, NB, Alberta Boucher, Garland, Maine, sons; Vincent Burtt, Ontario, Garth Burtt, Alberta, several grand, great and great great grandchildren, brother, Arthur Bartley (Bessie), sister, Alta Webster, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents Ferne was predeceased by her husband Perry Burtt, two children; Vinal, Cheryl, two sisters; Laura, Ica, two grandchildren; Bruce, Haldo, and a son in law, Andrew.

Visitation was held on Thursday, August 2 at The Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral service was held on Friday, August 3 at The Carleton Funeral Home Chapel at 1 PM with Rev. Paul Wellwood officiating. Interment was held in the Royalton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or memorial of the donor’s choice.

Marjorie Alice Meredith (McLean) Ross, 69, of Woodstock, NB, passed away at her residence on Thursday, August 2, 2007. Meredith was born in Toronto, Ontario on February 9, 1938, daughter, of late Ronald and Marjorie (Moore) McLean.

Meredith is survived by her husband C. Gordon Ross, Woodstock, NB, her present mother, Margaret McLean, Orangeville, Ontario, son, Andrew Ross (Nancy), Campbellton, NB, daughters; Paula Curtis (Malcolm), Toronto, Ontario, Christina Jeffrey (Shawn), Edmonton, Alberta, eight grandchildren; Laura Ross, Wendy Ross, Jena Clark, Madeline Clark, Daniel Curtis, Nichole Curtis, Sophia Jeffrey, Joshua Jeffrey, two brothers; Archie McLean (Kay), Woodstock, NB, David McLean (Dianne), Toronto, Ontario, sister, Mary Beaton (John), Orangeville, Ontario, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation was held at The Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville on Saturday, August 4, from 7 to 9. Funeral service was held on Sunday, August 5, from Woodstock Baptist Church at 2:30 PM. Interment was held in Woodstock Methodist Cemetery.

At the family’s request, donations can be made to Over Seas Missionary Fellowship, Apohaqui Community Church or memorial of the donor’s choice.
