Robert Blair (Bob) Reid

The death of Robert Blair Reid of New Maryland, occurred at his home on Wednesday, July 24th, 2002. Born in Moncton, son of the late Paul LeBaron and Mary (Young) Reid and husband of the late Edith (Gamble) Reid.

Bob was a veteran of the second world war serving as a signalman in the Canadian Navy.

Bob was a well known radio and television broadcaster having hosted the morning program “ Toast & Marmalade” for a number of years as well as the popular “Party Line” on CKCW Moncton in the 40’s and 50’s. He’ll be remembered by many as the MC of “The Bunkhouse Boys” Radio & Television programs out of Moncton.

Bob moved to the CBC when the English service was established in Moncton in 1967 and was later transferred to Fredericton where he retired in 1990.

Bob was an avid world traveler with love and curiosity for life and new adventures. He was well known for his wonderful sense of humor and joyful spirit. Bob was much beloved by his children, extended family and his friends who mourn his passing but celebrate his life with the same joy he greeted each and every day.

He was a member of the Moncton Men’s Press Club, a Past President of the Moncton Kiwanis Club and a former member of the Beausejour Curling Club in Moncton.

He is survived by his son Robert Reid Jr. (Daphne), of Saint John, NB; daughters Bonnie (Doug) Reid of California and Nancy Reid of New Maryland, NB; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth (Gerald) Walsh of Moncton, NB and Pauline Maxwell of Fredericton, NB.

He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Edith, and two brothers, Byron A. and Fred A. Reid.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 29th, 2002 from Christ Church Cathedral at 7:00 pm. The Rev. Elaine Lucas will officiate. Interment service to be held at a later date in Moncton. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to the NB Lung Association, Canadian Cancer Society and Arthritis Society would be appreciated by the family. McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Robert E. Porter

The death of Robert E. Porter of Fredericton, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Wednesday, July 24th, 2002. Born in Bairdsville, NB, he was the son of the late Robert Rayburn and Ada Maude (Miller) Porter.

Robert served in the R. C. A. F. from 1940 to 1967 and was employed by the Construction Industry of New Brunswick for 15 years, retiring in 1985.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; sons, Robin (Jan) of Wolfville, NS, Peter (Dianne) of Charlottetown, PEI and Chris (Alice) of Sackville, NB and seven grandchildren.

There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 26th, 2002 at 2:00 pm in the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel. Rev. Paul Ross will officiate. Interment will follow in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Emma Jackson
1915 – 2002

Dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died at DECH July 22.

Born in Pre-d’en Haut, N.B. to the late Leah (Melanson) and Frank Richard. Emma spent her early years in the Moncton area, moving to Pennfield, N.B. in 1942 when she married Warren Jackson and later to Black’s Harbour where they raised their family. She moved to Fredericton in 1977 and became a guiding light for her grandchildren during their formative years.

Emma devoted her life to her family and will be sadly missed by her son Floyd (Susan May), daughter Darlene (Laurie) Tompkins, grandchildren Jill Paterson (Jerry) Nolfi, Scott Paterson (Shelley Dingwall), and Craig Paterson (Angela Blizzard). She took much pleasure in the newest members of her family, great grandchildren Christopher, Emily and Benjamin Nolfi.

Survived by four sisters, with whom she shared a close bond, Dora Cormier, Annie Cormier, Marianne Arsenault and Hermine (Raymond) Belliveau. Predeceased by her husband Warren, sister Margaret and brothers, Dos and Zoel Richard.

Proudly independent, Emma had a special talent for friendship, making the world brighter for those who knew and loved her. She took great delight in her garden and was renowned for her Sunday dinners, a weekly highlight for those who were fortunate enough to gather around her table. Our world will be smaller with her passing.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held from the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Thursday, July 25, 2002. at 2:00 pm. Rev. Bob Johnson will officiate. Internment will be in the family plot in Pennfield N.B. at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations made to the NB Lung Association would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements in the care of McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home.

Lenore “Noot” Haining

The death of Lenore “Noot” Haining of Fredericton occurred at her home on Monday, July 15, 2002. Born in Devon, NB the daughter of the late Louis and Annie (Miles) Sterling and wife of the late Harold J. Haining.

Survived by one daughter Barbara MacDonald (Wayne Young) of Richmond Hill Ont.; one granddaughter Shelley MacDonald (Vince Fizzard) of Dartmouth NS; two sister in laws, Hilda Hamilton of Truro NS and Jean Sterling of Dalhousie, NB; one special friend Pat O’Hara.

Predeceased by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.

There will be no visitation by family request. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 18th, 2002 at 2:00pm at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ralph Irving officiating. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family. McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.

Hilda Wishart

The death of Hilda Wishart of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Thursday, July 11th, 2002. Born in Fredericton, NB, the daughter of the late William and Lucinda (Gilks) Seymour, wife of the late Bruce Wishart.

Hilda was a retired nurse and was a member of the ACW with the Christ Church Cathedral and the ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 many years.

Survived by one son Aulden (Evelyn) of Harvey Station, NB; two grandchildren, Susan and Terrance Wishart; and several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents, her husband Bruce, and two sisters, Bessie and Iva.

Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home on Friday, July 12th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will take place at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Saturday July 13th,at 3:30 PM, Rev. Elaine Lucas will officiate. Interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural cemetery. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.

Ralph (Addison) Craig

The death of Ralph (Addison) Craig of Fredericton occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Saturday June 29, 2002 after a lengthy illness. He was a member of the Devon Park Baptist Church. He was a member of the Marysville Y’s Men Club. He is survived by his wife Ida (Grant) Craig his 9 Children, Tim (Cindy Hull) Craig of Lantz NS, Kenneth Craig of Fredericton, Jeff (Vickey) Craig of Cornwall P.E.I., Janet (Tim MacAskill) Craig of Elmsdale NS, Susan (Gary) Salisbury of Tilbury Ont, Stephen (Kathy) Craig of Waasis NB, Ross (Darlene) Craig of Dartmouth NS, Helen (Malcolm) McArthur of Tay Creek NB, Lois (Randy) Edwards of Fredericton. He is also survived by his 17 Grandchildren and his sister Bayna (Ronald) Goodspeed of Fredericton. He is predeceased by his parents Ralph Craig and Louise (O’Donnell) Craig, his brother Robert and his infant Grandson Joshua Craig.

Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home, with visiting hours Tuesday, July 2, 2002 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A Memorial service will be held from J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Ralph Irving officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to charity of donor’s choice would be appreciated by Addison’s family.

Joseph W. Gorham

The death of Joseph W. Gorham of New Maryland, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, October 8th, 2002, at the age of 90. Born in Long Reach, NB, he was the son of the late Frank Butler and Martha Elizabeth (Tippett) Gorham and husband to Herberta “ Berta” Ruth (Creighton) Gorham.

At an early age, Joseph started his career as a farmer. He later became a partner in Gorham Beverages and was a Founder and President of Fredericton Housing and of Fredericton Rentals for many years. He was also a developer of Fulton Heights and Skyline Acres. Joseph was a faithful member of St. James Anglican Church in Long Reach, NB and later became a member of Christ Church Parish Church in Fredericton, NB. He was a member of the #33 Alexandria Masonic Lodge and of the Luxor Shrine Temple. Joseph was an avid hunter, gardener and a member of the Thistle Fishing Club, but most of all will be remembered as a devoted family man.

Survived by his wife, Berta; sons, Frank C. (Joan), G. Stirling (Clara), H. Gregg (Susan) and James F. (Anna Marie) and daughters, Nancy Gorham and H.J. Jody Gorham (Hap) all of Fredericton, NB and daughter, Jean F. MacDonald (Allan) of Anaheim, Ca., USA; 24 grandchildren: Peter, Tracy, Joe, Stephen, Nathan, Mark, Jason, Matthew – Heather, Beth, Scott – Mitchell, Tony, Christopher – Keith, Lisa, Blair – Amy, Alex – Kelly, Josh – Mike, Brett, Christie; 34 great-grandchildren: Katherine, Alex, Tessa – Tom, Dan, Jacob – Gwen, Anna, Zaidee – Zane – Ashley, Travis, Gabriel – Michael – Kayla, Emily – Daniel, Joe, Anne-Marie, Megan – Katherine, Wesley, Sabrina, Jack – Celine, Reilly, Hannah, Lydia – Allyson, Robyn – Olivia, Maggie – Abby, Erin; two sister-in-laws, Jessie Gorham and Hazel Reed and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by brothers, Stanwood, Stirling and Charles and sisters, Florence Warnock, Zaidee Williams and Mildred Redmore.

Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home on Thursday, October 10th, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A tribute service will be held by #33 Alexandria Masonic Lodge at 6:45 pm on Thursday. Funeral service will be held at Christ Church Parish Church on Friday, October 11th, 2002 at 10:30 am with Archdeacon John Sharpe officiating. Visitation will also be held at St. James Anglican Church, Long Reach, NB on Friday at 3:30 pm with an interment to follow at 4:00 pm in the adjoining church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children or to a charity of the donor’s choice, would be appreciated by the family.

Lucy Hayward Fowler

The death of Lucy Hayward Fowler of York Manor Nursing Home and formerly of 158 Charlotte Street, Fredericton occurred on Monday, October 8th, 2002. Born on September 17, 1903 in Upper Durham Bridge, NB, she was the daughter of the late William and Eva (Stewart) Fowler.

Lucy graduated from Provincial Normal School in Fredericton in 1922 and taught for many years and she was an active member of Wilmot United Church. Lucy will be forever remembered for her kind and caring ways.

She is the last surviving member of her immediate family but is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by three brothers, Stewart, John and Herbert Fowler and four sisters, Harriet Morris, Annie Schwartz, Jennie Estey and Helen Corey.

Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home on Thursday, October 10th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 11th at 11:00 AM. Rev. Bob Jones officiating assisted by Peter Somerville, Director of Pastoral Care York Manor. Interment will be in the Upper Durham Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to the Upper Durham Cemetery, York Manor Nursing Home or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
