JUSTINA DUECK

The call to depart this life and enter Gloryland came to our mother, Justina Dueck, wife of the late Peter F. Dueck, June 7, 2004. Mother was born Aug. 27, 1914 in Kleefeld, Man., the eighth child of Cornelius and Katherine W. Kornelson. She reached the age of 89 years.

In her teenage years, Mother worked in different homes to help meet the family's needs. July 11, 1937, she joined hands in marriage with Peter F. Dueck of Rosenort, Man. They lived in Rosenort the first 11 years of their married life.

In 1948 Mom and Dad faced new challenges when they moved to Chihuahua, Mexico. Leaving her aged parents was especially difficult for Mother. She missed the funeral of both her father and her mother in 1953.

Bringing up a family of nine plus many other responsibilities in a new land took courage and faith in God. He always supplied every need.

In 1965 the family returned to Manitoba. This time our parents bought a farm in the Interlake region near Fisher Branch, Man. Here they continued to work hard with the younger children who were still at home.

Dad left Mother behind and passed on to Gloryland on Oct. 7, 1980. In April 1981 we moved Mother into her new home in Morweena, Man. Elda lived there with her part-time for several years, till her marriage and move to Landmark, Man.

A seniors' apartment became available in the town of Landmark, and in the spring of 1990 she moved into that, just a few miles from Larry and Elda's home. She lived there for 12 years, until housework and cooking became too complicated for her.

In July 2002, Mother moved to the Cedarwood Apartments in Steinbach, Man. Here again she made new friends quickly.

March 9 of this year she suffered a serious stroke. She was admitted to Bethesda Hospital. After a month in there we thought she would recuperate and so she was moved to Rehab. May 29, she suffered another stroke and remained unconscious till she took her last breath nine days later.

She leaves to mourn her passing, nine children: Rosella (John) Plett of Fisher Branch, Man., Nettie (Arthur) Plett of Horndean, Man., Cornie (Alvina) of Wellesly, Ont., Larry (Elaine) of Grand Prairie, Alta., Teena (Albert) Barkman of Riverton, Man., Levi (Clarice) of Grande Prairie, Elda (Larry) Plett of Landmark, Elmer (Doris) of Grande Prairie, Peter (Trudy) of Arborg, Man., as well as 47 grandchildren, 133 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Elizabeth and Anna, one brother, Pete, and several in-laws.

Viewing will be at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Thursday, June 10, 7 p.m., with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be at the Prairie Rose Evangelical Mennonite Church, Landmark, Friday, June 11 at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Morweena Cemetery at 5 p.m.

The family extends a sincere thank-you to the staff at Cedarwood and to the doctors and nurses at Bethesda, as well as to all friends and family members for your help to our mother in her last months and days. We also say thank you to God for the wonderful privilege of knowing our mother's love and care to us through the years.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Bethesda Place Chaplain, Box 939, Steinbach, MB, R5G 1A3.

Arrangements entrusted to Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach, Man.
