NEILSON -- Antonia (Toni) Neilson (nee Kohout) of Brentwood Care Centre, passed away on December 12, 1997 in her 90th year. Antonia will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Karen (Fred) Gould of Nanton; her sons, Don (Isabel), Gerald, and Paul (Dolores); as well as her sister Anne Topak, all of Calgary. Also surviving are her eight grandchildren, Scott (Margo) Neilson of Vancouver, Valerie (Craig) Coulombe of Calgary, Shawna and Sharon Gould of Nanton, Robert, Eric, Kevin and Lesley Neilson of Calgary; and her nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Barbara Kohout and by her sisters, Mary Tupkal, Helen Mayer and Mildred Laidlaw. Antonia was born on October 13, 1908 in Michel B.C. and moved from the Crowsnest Pass to Calgary in 1928 to train at the Maxine Beauty School. She worked for the Hudson Bay and Eatons beauty salons in Calgary before retiring in 1974. Toni was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and enjoyed the many friendships she made through various groups including Time Out, Grace Bethany Group, the Mary Marthas, the choir, bible classes and the Westside Seniors. NELSON -- Mr. Andrew Nelson of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Sunday, December 14, 1997, after a brief illness, at the age of 92 years. Andrew was born in Denmark in 1905, and at the age of five, moved with his family to the state of Washington. He worked in the logging industry and served in the National Guard. In his late teens, Andrew moved to Calgary, where he has since resided. He served with the R.C.A.F. for five years during World War II, both in Canada and overseas. Following his wartime service, Andrew was employed for twenty years with Mannix, and then went into pipeline construction and inspection. Andrew is survived by a son Robert Andrew; and a daughter and son-in-law, Marguerite and Volk Stoll, all of Calgary; three grandchildren, Derek, Michael and Randall; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Teela and Kyrie. He is also survived by a sister Lily Moldenhauer of Edmonton. Andrew was predeceased by his wife Gunda in 1981, also by five brothers and three sisters. ROBERTSON -- Mrs. Isabella Wilson Robertson of Black Diamond, Alberta, passed away on December 14, 1997 at the age of 81 years, beloved mother of Marlene (Gordon) Goss, Okotoks and Betty Stewart, Turner Valley. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Robertson was predeceased by her husband William in 1952, her son Allan in 1993, sisters, Margaret Wharry in 1987 and Agnes Christie in 1981. ROBINSON -- Alice Robinson (nee Hamerl) of Calgary, passed away at the Rosedale Hospice on Sunday, December 14, 1997 after a courageous battle with cancer. Alice was born in Heisler, Alberta and worked in Camrose and Calgary as a dental assistant. She met her husband Doug in Calgary and married in 1948. Alice always enjoyed looking after her home and entertaining friends. Alice is survived by her family, three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Edna and Peter Maciborsky of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Jean and Wallace Comeaux, of Anchorage, Alaska and Doris Hamerl of Grande Prairie, Alberta. ROCK -- Ada Rock (nee MacLean) of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 1997 at the age of 90 years. Ada was born on September 7, 1907 in the Magdalen Islands, Quebec in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. As a young girl, she left the islands to work at Bishops College in Lennoxville, Que. where she met and married Frederick Rock. Upon the passing of her husband in 1948, Ada and her three children traveled west to Calgary where she resided until her passing. She is survived by two daughters and a son, Jean Harnes and Marion (Hans) Bauer of Calgary, and Charles (Alice) Rock of Val-des-Bois, Quebec; as well as five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Greta Turner and Mabel McRoberts; two brothers, Ralph MacLean and Ford MacLean; and a sister-in-law Marie McLean, and their families. RUNDLE -- Helen M., known to her friends as Phoebe, passed away December 7, 1997 at the age of 80. She was a resident at the Maple Hill Extended Care Facility in Langley, B.C. She is survived by her son Gordon and his wife Tara; and her three grandchildren, Annette, Bobby and Susan. She also leaves a brother J.W. Gibbons, and a sister Grace Brown. SHARPE -- Mr. Edward Alexander Sharpe passed away following a courageous battle with heart disease. He is survived by his loving son Barry; as well as his two sisters, Marie O'Bertous and Betty Pope; his brothers, Harold and Tom. He was predeceased by his brother John. Ed was born in Calgary and served overseas from 1939 to 1945 during World War II, following the war he continued his career in the R.C.A.F. He was active in the Masonic Lodge and the Star. He loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. His family was very important to him and he will be lovingly remembered by them. SMISTAD -- Ivar Smistad passed away peacefully at Bethany Care Centre, surrounded by his family on December 12, 1997 at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his wife Alice Jean; sons, Warren (Catherine), Rikard (Valerie Kinnear); daughter Ingrid Osborne (Kevin); and grandchildren, Ian, Carla, Breton, Erik and Andrew, all of Calgary. Ivar was born in Oksendal, Norway on May 12, 1910. He came to Canada at the age of sixteen. He worked at a variety of occupations and then attended Henderson Business College in Regina. In 1937 he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and served twenty interesting years, including two years as a Probation Officer for the Province of Nova Scotia. He also served in the Special Branch in Halifax during the war, acted as security officer during Canada's first mission to Greenland in 1940 and completed his final posting at RCMP headquarters in Ottawa. In 1957 he retired from the RCMP, moved to Calgary and started Mechanical Drywall. He also built many custom homes in Calgary and the surrounding area. His life centered around his family and the church. He served many years on the Council of Trinity Lutheran Church and was one of the founders of the Calgary Scandinavian Centre. Ivar was also a member of the Vasa Order. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and a sister in Norway, and a grandson Neil in 1980. He is survived by numerous relatives in Norway and Saskatchewan. SOLBACH -- Kurt Eugen passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Saturday, December 13, 1997 at the age of 67 years, with his wife Edeltraut of forty-four years at his bedside. He leaves to mourn his son Wolfgang; and daughter Marion Whitmore; as well as his two favorite grandchildren, Christopher and Michelle. He will also be missed by his brother Erwin (Esperanza) Solbach of El Paso, Texas; and his sister Ingrid (Rolf) Baptist of Gunn, Alberta. He was a very caring, loving and gentle parent. He loved to hear and play all kinds of music. On any occasion all of his friends would be known to drop by and sit around with Kurt, playing music from dusk to dawn.
