ELL -- Neil Anthony Ell of Calgary, was taken away suddenly on Monday, January 19, 1998 at the age of 43 years. He will be remembered for his involvement in sports, particularly Minor Hockey (Mac's Tournament), Slowpitch, Football and Ringette. He issurvived by his father Tony; a sister Margie; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Terry, Greg, Barry and Brenda-Lee; a niece Lauren and a nephew Michael. Neil was predeceased by his mother Mary. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard's Catholic Church (711 - 37 Street N.W.) on Friday, January 23, 1998 at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Michael L. GONSALVES -- Doris Gonsalves passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on January 17, 1998 at the age of 84 years. Born May 26, 1913, she was predeceased by her husband Victor in 1982. She is survived by her daughters, Jean McCowan, Audrey Gonalves; son Derrick; dear friend John Mooney; grandchildren, Bruce, Judy, Barbara and Paul; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Brett, Braedon, Korey, Ryan and Rachel. A Memorial Service will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4 Street N.W. HAWTHORNE -- Robert "Bob", born May 21, 1920 in Medicine Hat, passed away January 19, 1998 at the age of 77 years. He will be dearly missed by his wife Betty; his son Larry (Sabrena); his daughter Lynn; and two granddaughters, Andrea and Dianne. Bob s survived by his brothers, Victor (Charlotte) of Calgary, Harvey of Olds, Jim (Nora) of Medicine Hat, Frank (Ruth) of Didsbury, and Gordon (Jessie) of Strathmore. He was predeceased by his brother Roland and wife Kathleen of Cardston. He served five years overseas in the army during the Second World War, and worked for thirty-four years for Canada Cement of Exshaw. He retired in 1984 and moved to Calgary in 1988. Bob enjoyed traveling, camping and hiking in the mountains. He never missed hiking up Johnson's Canyon at least once a year for forty-five years. A Memorial Service will be held at the Woodcliff United Church (5010 Spruce Drive S.W., near entrance to Edworthy Park) on Friday, January 23, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Bob Mutlow officiating. JENKINS -- Mary Louise Jenkins (nee Crossland), beloved husband of Keith Jenkins of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Sunday, January 18, 1998 after a brief illness at the age of 52 years. Mary is survived by her husband Keith Jenkinsand only daughter Ennien and son-in-law Robin Ashbrook. Beloved daughter of Sunny Bright, will be sadly missed by sisters, Joan and Elizabeth; brothers, Frank, Don, Bill, Jim, and their families. Since her move to Calgary in 1978, and subsequent marriage to Keith Jenkins, Mary has been also loved by Keith's parents, Dot and Maynard Jenkins of Edmonton, AB; and their other family members. The Jenkins became her family in Alberta. Mary was born on February 3, 1945 at Toronto, Ontario. She worked as a buyer, serving at hospitals in Toronto and Edmonton, followed by five years at the University of Calgary Procurement Department. Later she served as a buyer for Dome Petroleum, Nova and Tri-Ocean Engineering. The highlight of her career was working as a purchaser for the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988. A subsequent career change into the role of legal assistant took her in an entirely new direction professionally. Mary was renowned as a cook and author of the Crossland family cookbook. At the time of her death, she was preparing a second edition of that original cookbook. Mary was generous with the products of her kitchen and shared her recipes/kitchen secrets. In her youth, Mary was a talented violinist and played piano. Mary's literary skills enabled her to share her many travel experiences with friends and family, via wonderful, descriptive letters and photo stories. With her husband Keith, they were generous, thoughtful hosts, and tour guides for their many visitors. Mary will be remembered mostly for her "sunny personality". KIRKHOPE -- Margaret Sarah Mary (nee Carey), beloved wife of James "Scotty" Kirkhope, Okotoks, passed away at the High River Hospital on Sunday, January 18, 1998 at the age of 65 years. Besides her husband, she is survived by her stepdaughter Ann Kirhope, Vancouver; and her brother Henry and Judy Carey in England. Margaret was an R.N. and served as matron of the High River Hospital for many years. In keeping with Margaret's wishes, Cremation has taken place and no Services will be held. LARSEN -- Frances Grace (nee Horton) went to be with the Lord peacefully on January 17, 1998, at the age of 78. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Richard; her son Brian; and her daughters, Sherrill Thirsk, Richelle Wiseman, ad Suedale Schierman. She was predeceased by her son Stephen in 1993 and by her sister Jessie Lovelace in 1995. Grace is fondly remembered by her daughters-in-law, Rachel Thorne, Heather Larsen; and sons-in-law, Richard Thirsk, John Wiseman and Michael Schierman; and her grandchildren, Rebecca and Jason Larsen, Brooke and Holly Larsen, Jared and Sheridan Thirsk, Cayla and Luke Wiseman and Matthew Schierman. Grace was a devoted wife and mother whose strong faith in Jesus Christ was a source of light and strength to her family and to many others. We praise the Lord she is finally home where we will be reunited one day. LEYTEN -- Alice Marie Jeanne passed away peacefully at the High River Nursing Home on January 18, 1998 at the age of 84. Alice was predeceased by her husband John in 1977, their infant son Bruce in 1951, and her brothers, Fred and Leo in 1996. She issurvived by her daughters, Donna (Joseph) Savrtka, Denise (Frits) Ipema and Cheryl (Charles Cloutier); as well as her sisters, Margaret (Gerry) Heffernan, Leona (Gene) Foisy, Helen (Guy) Haineault, Sister Rita Lavoie, Viola (Ted) Tutt, Theresa (Marcel) Clouthier; her brothers, Arnold (Margaret) Lavoie, Albert (Lucy) Lavoie, and Royal (Josephine) Lavoie; her sisters-in-law, Violet Lavoie and Cecile Lavoie; five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was an active member of the Beiseker Catholic Women's League and the Acme Legion Ladies' Auxiliary and took great pleasure in sharing special moments with her family. LIVINGSTONE -- Jason Livingstone, beloved father of Brennen of Calgary, passed away January 16, 1998 at the age of 27 years. MALANOWSKA -- Aleksandra, beloved wife of Czeslaw and mother of Czeslawa, Maria and Aleksander, passed away suddenly in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on January 19, 1998 at the age of 59 years. Aleksandra was born on January 1, 1939 in Lodz, Poland, whereshe worked for many years as a dedicated Registered Nurse. Czeslaw and Aleksandra were married in Lodz, Poland in 1971 and Aleksandra immigrated to Canada one year later to start a fruitful, married life, together with Czeslaw. The Lord blessed the loving couple with three beautiful children. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Wladyslawa Raj; as well as nieces and nephews. Aleksandra is survived by her mother Stanislawa Banasiak; brother Grzegorz and his family in Poland. She was a generous and compassionate lady who devoted her life to family, friends and God. The family will always remember her for her warm smile and sweet kisses. McLELLAN -- Christine Janice McLellan of Calgary, passed away suddenly at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on January 18, 1998 at the age of 25 years. She is the loving mother of an infant daughter Hailey Jessica. Christine is also survived by her loving arents, Mabel McLellan of Calgary, and Andrew and Kathryn McLellan of Airdrie; also a sister Catherine; and a brother Andrew and his dear friend Gaylene, all of Calgary. She will also be dearly missed by Andrew Matticks, and his parents, Susan and Bob. She is also survived by her grandmother Louise McLellan of Scotland; and many other relatives in Scotland. MENDONCA -- Mr. Jose Miguel Mendonca of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 18, 1998 at the age of 68 years. Jose was born on January 25, 1929 in Sobral da Lagoa, Portugal and immigrated to Canada in 1955. Love, thoughts and prayers are hared by his wife Maria; his four daughters and two sons-in-law, Maria Marieno, Luisa Mendonca and Stuart Bonin, Catharina Mendonca and Ivar Alvarez and Lucia Mendonca, all of Calgary; his four grandchildren, David, Mary, Jonah and Madeleine. He will be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Vince and Liz, Americo and Maria; his sister Maria Duque; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jose was predeceased by his son-in-law David Marieno in 1994, his parents, Jose Junior and Luisa da Conceicao, as well as nephew Mark Mendonsa. Alvin is survived by his daughter Laurie Montgomery (Garry) of Ponoka; his son Barry Montgomery (Penny), Blackie; and his grandchldren, Raylene, Jennifer and Trevor Montgomery, Greg and Pam Hanson, and Clay Montgomery, and Kerra Reece; as well as his special friend Deb Thomas and her daughters, Heather and Cathy Rasmussen. He is also survived by his mother Lena Montgomery, High River; his sister Betty Ellis, Cayley; his brother John (Peggy) Montgomery, High River; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives. MORTELL -- In loving memory of Richard Wayne Mortell, born Easter Sunday, April 12, 1925 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. PAYNE -- Marilyn E. (nee Cundell), beloved wife of Mr. Robert Payne of Calgary, passed away at her residence on January 16, 1998 at the age of 44 years. She is also survived by one sister and three brothers. Marilyn was predeceased by one sister in ifancy. Funeral Services will be held in Ottawa, Ontario. REESE -- Mr. Oswald (Ossie) Reese of Calgary, passed away at the Glenmore Park Auxiliary Hospital on Sunday, January 18, 1998 after a short illness at the age of 83 years. Ossie was born in Teplitz, Czechoslovakia on April 28, 1914, son of Oswald Reee and Marie Lossl and spent the early part of an active sporting life there. He married Pauline Schubert in 1941 and they moved to Munich, Germany in 1945. In 1952, they immigrated to Canada and on July 3, 1958, they became proud Canadians. The family resided in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) for twenty-two years where Ossie worked at the News Chronicle as a typesetter from 1955 to his retirement in 1976. The Reese family were avid skiers and very involved in the operations of Mt. Baldy Ski Club. In 1976, Ossie and Pauline moved to Uxbridge/Sunderland, ON, to the countryside where Ossie enjoyed the beauty, peace and privacy of country living. In 1987, they moved to a retirement residence in a wonderful, friendly community in Naples, Fla., where they spent their last six winters together with close friends. Ossie and Pauline loved the ocean and the mountains and traveled extensively between 1977 and 1993. After Pauline passed away in March 1993, Ossie moved to Calgary, AB, where he met new friends and continued to travel. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Heinz and Kathy Reese of Sunderland, ON, Gordon and Christine Reese of Calgary, AB; and four grandchildren, Stephen and Robin of Sunderland, and Ryan and Michela of Calgary; as well as a sister-in-law Anna Dite; two nephews, Ossie Dite and his wife Lilo, Freddy Dite and his wife Helga; a grandnephew Oliver, all of Germany, and a niece Ingrid and her husband Roger Harbrouk of Lethbridge, AB. He was predeceased by two sisters, Trudy and Adi in Germany and Czechoslovakia, respectively. ROBB -- Minna Robb of Calgary, AB, passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at the age of 80 years. She is survived by three children, six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her familyand friends at the Grace Gardens.
